Il risultato di questa partita era molto atteso da tutti, perchè portatore di verdetti quasi definitivi: il Reading si candida prepotentemente per ottenere un posto nei playoffs, il PNE dà l'addio quasi definitivo alla Championship....ed alcune squadre che avevano ancora una speranziella di irrompere a sorpresa nella top 6 (fra le quali c'era anche il Bristol City, visto che era a -7 con 21 possibili punti in palio) possono ''rilassarsi'' e pensare solo a finire il campionato nel miglior modo possibile.. -

La 42° giornata di Championship si è aperta con la vittoria del Norwich nell'anticipo del venerdì contro il Nottingham Forest. Un match iniziato male per i padroni di casa, andati in svantaggio a causa di uno sciagurato errore dell'estremo difensore Ruddy, ma grazie alla tenacia e al supporto del proprio pubblico, i Canaries sono riusciti a strappare tre punti fondamentali per la corsa alla promozione diretta. Il Nottingham perde un punto rispetto al Leeds che al momento occupa l'ultima posizione utile per l'accesso ai play-offs. Grant Holt, tra i protagonisti della splendida stagione del Norwich, è già concentrato sulla sfida contro l'Ipswich: "Se non sarò in piena condizione fisica, non giocherò. In queste ultime partite deve giocare solo chi è al massimo, ora devo solo riposare bene e fare il massimo per essere disponibile per la sfida della prossima giornata". Il Cardiff non resta a guardare e centra la quarta vittoria consecutiva battendo il Portsmouth con un rotondo 3-0. Olofinjana, autore del primo gol, ha dichiarato: "In questo momento dobbiamo solo pensare ad essere concentrati su noi stessi. Dobbiamo soltanto preoccuparci di vincere le partite perchè in questo modo saremo promossi automaticamente; conquistare i tre punti dipende soltanto da noi. La partita contro il Portsmouth non è stata semplice come potrebbe sembrare, perchè sapevamo bene le preoccupazioni che avrebbero potuto darci: è una squadra molto forte fisicamente e ci eravamo preparati anche psicologicamente per affrontarli".
Continua l'inarrestabile marcia del Reading che ancora crede alla promozione diretta dopo la brillante vittoria (sesta consecutiva) contro il Leicester. Ian Harte ha ammesso che tra i Royals: "c'è un'aria da favola e sarebbe un sogno riuscire a centrare la promozione". Con questa sconfitta il Leicester dovrà dire quasi certamente addio ai sogni play-off, ma il risultato raggiunto da Eriksson è già di per sè un miracolo, vista la pessima situazione di classifica dell'ex squadra di Paulo Sousa nel momento in cui il tecnico svedese ha accettato l'incarico. Con questa mentalità e qualche altro innesto di qualità, il Leicester potrà puntare in alto nella prossima stagione.
Non è in un momento brillante lo Swansea che perde nella trasferta contro il Burnley, riuscendo però a mantenere una distanza di sicurezza dal Nottingham. Leo Britton chiede l'appoggio dei tifosi: "Abbiamo bisogno del loro supporto e sono certo che ci sarà. Ovviamente non siamo soddisfatti del nostro recente rendimento casalingo, ma stiamo facendo il massimo e lo faremo fino al termine della stagione per raggiungere i play-offs."
Il Leeds avrebbe potuto ipotecare l'accesso ai play-offs, grazie alla sconfitta del Nottingham, ma il Watford - che nelle ultime settimane ha sciupato tutto quello che di buono aveva fatto nella parte centrale della stagione - è riuscito a fermare gli uomini di Grayson che si sono salvati grazie ad un'autorete di Troy Deeney a due minuti dallo scadere.
Nel posticipo, il QPR non riesce ad andare oltre lo 0-0 in una partita poco brillante e povera di emozioni.
In zona retrocessione, il Preston North End vince la sfida delle deluse contro lo Sheffield United (ormai ad un passo dalla matematica retrocessione), restando ancora in corsa per la salvezza. Nathan Ellington elogia i suoi fans: "I tifosi sono stati fantastici e ci sostengono sempre. Siamo in forma adesso e dobbiamo continuare a lottare e a crederci fino alla fine. la prossima partita contro il Millwall sarà molto difficile e in qualunque posizione di classifica si trovino, sono bravi a rendere le cose difficili agli avversari. faremo il nostro meglio, come sempre, per conquistare i tre punti".
Nell'altra attesissima sfida salvezza, lo Scunthorpe ha la meglio in casa del Crystal Palace, grazie alle reti di Mirfin e Núñez. proprio quest'ultimo suona la carica: "Questa vittoria è solo l'inizio. Tutti sapevamo dell'importanza di questa partita. Per tutta la gara abbiamo mostrato grande energia, non avremmo potuto perdere. Abbiamo giocato tutti al massimo delle nostre possibilità ed in particolare la mie ultime sessioni di allenamento sono state le migliori della mia carriera e comunque in campo abbiamo mostrato come il nuovo allenatore abbia dato qualcosa in più a questa squadra. C'è ancora molta strada, ma sicuramente abbiamo fatto un grande passo avanti con questa vittoria.. -
